PATIENT SAFETY

 In MG Laboratory, we follow the JCI International Patient Safety Goals. 

Purpose:

- To improve patient safety in specific ways.

- Demonstrate proactive approaches to lowering the risk of medical error.

- Establish clear priorities and strategies for enhancing patient safety.

1st Goal; Identify patients correctly.

  • Ask for at least 2 identifiers such as full name, IC number or medical record number.
  • Verify patient identification before all diagnostic procedures.
  • Verify females’ patient first day of last period before proceeding to do radiographic procedures.

2nd Goal; Improve effective communication.

  • Effective communications can reduce errors such as miscommunications.
  • Communicate at their eye level with young patients (kids).
  • No inappropriate and harsh words.
3rd Goal; Improve safety of high-alert medication.

  • Emphasized on how the medications are stored and labelled. 
4th Goal; Ensure correct-site correct procedure, correct-patient surgery.

  • Always verify with patients before proceeding every procedures to avoid mistakes.
  • Always make sure use new needles for every patient.
5th Goal; Reduce the risk of healthcare associated infections.

  • Practice handwashing routine
  • Wear facemask and glove during procedures.
6th Goal; Reduce the risk of patients harm resulting from falls.

  • Walking aid available at MG Laboratory’s receptionist lounge.
  • Not leaving examination bed without any help
  • Unused equipment is removed from the room to avoid trips.
